It's Good To Know

About Us

12th Ward Save Our Community Organization, Inc. began its operations in 1974. Our primary goal was, and continues to be, to serve the needs of the "working poor" (those people who do not qualify for free programs because of their income, but could not afford to pay for different services), in New Orleans primarily in the uptown area. Initially, we served the uptown area (Milan Corridor) but over the years our clients have come from all areas of the city.

Over the last 40 plus years we've been in operation, we've administered many community based programs for the citizens of New Orleans. Some of the programs we've operated are: an after-school reading, math and homework assistance program-Milan Reading & Math Program (one of the longest state-run programs which ended due to Hurricane Katrina); MLK Homemaker's Program-serving the needs of the elderly and/or disabled clients with basic housekeeping services and running errands; MLK Training Program-instructing adults in basic computer literacy; 12th Ward S.O.C.O Job Preparation Program-assisting clients in preparing them to enter or re-enter the job market (interview skills; proper resume' preparation, etc.); 12th Ward S.O.C.O.-Milan Area Senior Citizens Center-program to provide the elderly and/or disabled with transportation, socialization, recreational and other activities. Milan area Senior Citizens Program continues to operate.
